This is where I have got to. I think I have a usable drawing for the wing and tail plus associated parts.

The fuselage still needs work to sort out a battery hatch and motor/mount placement.

I will need a body to make the canopy mould.

So still a bit left to do.

It was nice to get out today and do some flying 😀

@jono some functions only work on components! My advice would be to use components especially on more complex projects as doing so gives a more ordered structure to your ‘tree’. Another thing that I never used to do but now do, is to make that I rename sketches and bodies as I’m working through a project, again it makes finding and editing things so much easier.

If I was going to build this in balsa (I’m going to try to go it in Depron) I would alter the construction of the wing, do away with the front spars and build a D box instead plus add cap strips to the ribs.

@jono I make a ply motor box for mounting leccy motors, it allows for some lateral adjustments and is dead easy to fix to the firewall.

@rong I considered doing just what you said with the wing design. I am also interested to see if the as designed works ok it should be lighter but will it be ok. I will try it first 🙂

i like the motor box idea and will do something similar but 3D printed I want to move the bulkhead forward to allow batteries to come forward too to allow a bit more scope when balancing it out.

I am very interested to see a Dapron version

@jono I’m guessing that using Depron for the build will allow me to fit the battery behind the as drawn firewall. Guess I’ll just have to draw it all out, cut it, glue it and see.

@rong Yes I would agree dapron would give a lighter tail end. If you redraw you can place the bulkhead anywhere you like. What power system are you looking to use ?

I’m guessing that a 3542-1000 on 3s turning a 12x6 should be ok.

@rong I was also thinking along those lines. Either  3542 or 3548 I have the 3548 on 4s 12x6 in my Dazzler  which works well

@jono my gut tells me that I should be able to build it with an auw of circa 1Kg

@rong Hi Ron, what is the spec of your laser head, I am looking to upgrade mine for a unit with a bit more power and air assist.

@jono mine is a Sculpfun 20w, this may help https://sculpfun.com/products/sculpfun-s30-pro-max-laser-engraver-machine

@rong thanks, that is very helpful. It looks like there are more multi diode options with thinner beams and air assist available since I originally bought mine. May be I should try to add an air assist to what I have got first. But I do rather think there has been a bit of a step up recently.

@jono imo air assist is a must as it helps to give a much cleaner cut.
