If anyone is interested, I could document the project that I have just finished which is a heavily modified Pica Spitfire into a MKXV1 Clip Wing Polish 308 Sqn very heavily battered, war worn and oily example. (Its yet to fly though)

Ok then, here we go. Not quite sure where exactly to start, so just tag along and see how this pans out. Please take into account that to the stages I am writing about today are over three years old! Its taken me a long time to get it finished. The model is based on a 308 Sqn aircraft from WW2. I have a couple of B&W images somewhere that I must find, but the model is based on the example in the Krakow Museum: www.alamy.com/supermarine-spitfire-at-the-krakow-aircraft-museum-krakow-poland-europe-image259370031.html. This one isn't an original WW2 airframe ind is very very shiney but is good enough for reference purposes.

The Spitfire airframe is a few years old. Started by a friend then abandoned. Pica Spitfires fly quite well once the balance issues have been sorted, however, quite a few wings have folded as the spars were fabricated from balsa, so the wing was split and a suitable spar fabricated from ply and at the same time, the whole from was cut off and new, more scale like glass cloth moulding made, by hand, on the bench and grafted on. At this point the engine of choice was to be a Roto 85FSi inline twin, however, they are are rare as hens teeth and very expensive, so the bulkhead was modified to take a DLE55RA. If a Roto ever becomes available it would be fairly easy to reverse engineer.

This is were the photo's take us to.

Excellent. Looking forward to following this, and seeing it fly at Buckminster. 😉

Next up, to the wing. The horrible vac formed plastic blisters were removed and mould made for the wheel well blisters and the cannon blisters. These were formed from black foam. The wheel well blisters were glued in place then glass clothed onto the wing but the gun blisters were formed off the wing them epoxied into place after much measuring and head scratching.
